Your spine is delicate, and we will consider conservative, nonsurgical treatment plans that might help alleviate your problem before looking at surgical options.
An evaluation may begin with one of our neurosurgical physician assistants or nurse practitioners. The visit will include a medical history and physical. When appropriate, radiological studies such as CT, X-ray, myelograms, MRI and angiograms may be ordered for additional evaluation.
After the initial evaluation a conservative treatment plan may be ordered by our physiatrists. This could include the physician performing injections or prescribing physical therapies that focus on the joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves. Your treatment plan may involve surgery. Our neurosurgeons treat any problems from brain aneurysms to back issues. A neurosurgeon specializes in procedures to treat congenital abnormalities, degenerative spinal conditions, trauma, tumors, stroke, vascular abnormalities of the brain or spine, and spinal infections.
With this collaborative treatment planning, our patients receive personalized care to achieve the optimal benefits for a healthier life.
Waiting Room ExpectationsOur neurosurgeons are on call 24/7 to serve all of North Alabama. We offer emergency trauma care to anyone brought to Huntsville Hospital, a Level I trauma center. In addition to serving our communities in emergency situations, we also maintain a robust elective surgery practice. Sometimes, when our neurosurgeons are 'on call,' unexpected emergencies may arise, potentially causing delays in our waiting room.
Our neurosurgeons treat a variety of problems from brain tumors to any issues with your spine. We strive to take extra time with each patient to ensure they receive the best possible care and knowledge on their condition, which can lead to longer wait times for subsequent patients.
Despite these factors, we try to minimize wait times as much as possible and appreciate your patience and understanding. If any of our physicians are running behind during clinic we will do our best to keep you informed.

Our goal is to provide you with the very best experience and care. To make sure your first appointment goes smoothly, it is important that you know what items to bring with you.
- A list of your current medications and supplements
- All insurance cards
- Your driver’s license
- A list of treatments and medications that were tried in the past
- If you've had any imaging related to your condition performed, please bring a copy on a cd.
- Written referral from your primary care physician
- Co-payment or minimum payment (given at appointment time) for uninsured patients
- List of questions you want to ask your physician or physician assistant
- $2 to exit the Governors Medical Tower
Driving Directions & Parking
Parking for the Huntsville clinic is available in the Governors Medical tower and requires $2 to exit. Other Spine & Neuro locations have free parking lots.
